April is half over and we are tumbling toward May and soon it will be the season of graduating. It seems like every class has a graduation now, so how about you

1. Did you enjoy your senior year of high school?

2. Did you have a senior trip (high school) and were you able to go on it.

3. Was graduating (from either high school or college/university) a big thing with your family or just another day?

4. What were you looking forward to the most after graduating from either high school or college/university?

5. Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your graduating self?

1. I did, with the possible exception of Advanced Chemistry. I was heavily into drama and it was a great time of discovering a brand new world for me.

2. Our school didn't do stuff like that. It was labeled as a progressive school and did a lot of odd things, like no dances and no senior trips. Since I was into neither at that point, it was okay.

3. When I graduated from high school, my folks threw me a big party. When I graduated from college the first time, TBG put Pomp and Circumstances on the turntable and presented me with my diploma (I graduated in the winter semester - no ceremony). The second time, I went the whole route, ceremony robes, rings, the whole nine yards and afterwards, we went to a masquerade ball and then a performance of "Phantom of the Opera" with him and a good friend. Yeah, it was a party. :D

4. Honestly, not having assignments due all the time or spending the weekend studying or running flash cards. I worked very hard to maintain my GPA and it was a relief to be done with it.

5. I would have told myself to cut me some slack. Good grads are nice, but they don't mean squat in the real world. Instead I would have stressed getting what real life experience you could from each class as that will be of more help to you than knowing the Battle of Hastings was 1066...

comments

Ah, faith and begorra, it’s nearly time for the wearing of the green. That’s the limit of my Irish, I’m afraid. Instead...

1. Have you ever made corned beef and cabbage?

2. Will you be tipping back a decent pint of Guinness this weekend?

3. Do you own an Irish wool sweater?

4. Have you ever ‘met’ the Tart with a cart (i.e. have you been to Dublin)?

5. Do you know what tractors, submarines and ejector seat all have in common?

1. I have not and don't willing go out of my way to eat it either. It's odd because I like cabbage and corned beef hash is okay.

2. I won't as I'm not a beer drinker. I'll lift a glass on Sunday in a salute to all things Irish instead.

3. Alas, I used to wear them all the back East and in Nevada, but it's too warm here, so they were eventually given to Goodwill. Heavy sigh...

4. I have. It's a lovely city and our tour guide was quick to point Molly out to us.

5. I do, but only because I made up this Friday five, so I'm not saying.

comments

What are you grateful for today?

Copy and paste to your own journal

1. I think that we are. Everyone seems to be preoccupied with chattering away into phones, but they never seems as if they are listening to anyone.

2.I am assuming that means in a positive sense and not as a criminal. Yes, I have. We have often had police called out at work for supposed burglaries, and even a couple of time when we were broken into. It’s always been a positive and comforting situation. I appreciate that there are people who can do that job because I couldn't.

3. I don't mind being alone and I crave my 'me' time, but a steady diet of it, like anything, would become old hat and not as cherished.

4.My personal passwords just my husband. Work passwords are documented down by our System Administrator and filed away.

5.
It's a seemingly never ending task - grocery shopping.

1. Do you make up a dinner plan for the coming week?

2. Do you make up a grocery shopping list and stick to it when shopping?

3. What is one thing that you always buy, but never write down on a list?

4. Is there anything that you always think you are out of and come home with it to discover you already have a year’s supply on hand?

5. Do you get your groceries delivered?

1. Yes, it's something TBG and I have done for years (and I have the old menus to prove it). It's nice to be able to hold onto old recipes that have worked in the past and know which cookbook to find them in.

2. Yes and no. I always get what's on the list, but there usually a few visits from the shopping cart fairy before I get out of the store.

3. Milk. I always need milk.

4. White vinegar and mayo. I ran out each item once... let's just say, I will never run out of them again.

5. What size (twin, full, etc.) is your bed?

2. How many pillows do you sleep with?

3. Do you have a weighted blanket? If so, does it help you?

4. Do you sleep with any stuffed animals?

5. Do you have to have the TV on to go to sleep?

1. We have a four post platform queen size bed. It was designed to be a water bed, but we had it fitted with a regular mattress. I loved it the first time I saw it and still do. TBG's parents gave it and the matching dresser to us as a weeding gift 39 years ago. I'll never swap unless space forces me to.

2. Technically two, but Jenny sleeps on one and I get the other one.

3. No, I have cats. That's weighted enough.

4. No, just five cats and one husband.

5. Never. I don't even like music when I'm trying to sleep. Now, nature CDs with rain or waves is fine.

comments

A Friday of Firsts. It's easy to remember the big firsts - your first kiss, first love, first car, and so on, but what about the small firsts?

1. Do you remember when you were first addressed as sir or ma'am?
2. Do you remember when you first realized the difference between being childish and childlike?
3. Do you remember the first time you realized you were more adult than child?
4. Do you remember your first taste of major independence?
5. Do you remember what you bought with your first paycheck?

1. I do. I was about 13 and in our version of Target. The cashier addressed me as ma'am and I felt so thrilled and honored. I was in such a hurry to grow up. Had I only known...

2. Gosh, it was when I was still dating TBG and he urged me to go out on some dates with other guys. One guy, who ended up marrying my BBF at the time years later, reminded me of a whiny child. I thought he was fun before spending some one on one time with him. That's when I realize he wasn't looking for a wife. He was looking for a Mommy.

3. I think the moment came when I sat down to play with some of my toys and the magic didn't happen. I was stunned. They had been my best friends and suddenly they were just colorful bits of plastic. Happily my imagination took off in other directions and I started really writing. before you feel too badly for me, I was probably about 14 when it happened.

4. That had to be when, at 17, I boarded the plane for Reno. I'd never spent more than a few hours in the company of my brother. I despised his children, but I was willing to endure it all for a college education. And I met TBG, too, so it all worked out for me. But to be on that plane with no adults, no one to tell me what to do or how to do it. It was incredible.

5. I do. I was in my Dennis Weaver stage and bought a pair of country style hip huggers and a western shirt. I thought I was stylin' and for me, I was. :D

comments

1. Do you have a favorite piece of jewelry? Describe.

2. Is there a piece of jewelry that you wear daily? Describe.

3. What is the most costly piece of jewelry you own?

4. What piece of jewelry would you secretly (or not so secretly) love to own, but do not? Why don't you?

5. Is there a piece of jewelry you once owned but no longer own? What happened to it?

1. Not really. I like my Eye of Horus and my ankh, but jewelry isn't really high on my list of favorite things.

2. Nope. I can't wear my wedding ring anymore because of my arthritis. It's a two piece set, sapphire surrounded by diamonds for engagement ring, a simply band for the wedding ring.

3. I have a sapphire ring with diamonds that we bought in Bangkok and also a 24 karat gold bracelet of hand crafted reef fish. Both are in the safety deposit box at the bank.

4. I don't lust after jewelry. I rarely wear it, so it's no big deal to me.

5. Another sapphire and diamond ring. I'm hoping it's just stuck somewhere and not lost.

comments

Out of all of the very enjoyable prompts, I had the most fun with this one. Again, a tip of the hat to sparky955 for her beta help.

Cough, cough, sniffle.

Achoo! Achoo!

Santa sighed and rubbed his forehead. Usually his factory floor was abuzz with activity at this time of the year, but only a handful of elves soldiered on and none of them sounded anywhere near healthy.

“Why now?” he asked the fat cats that lolled by his stocking feet. For her part, Holly just yawned and rolled over, exposed her tummy to the warm glow of the fire. Tinsel was too lazy to even do that. He snored on.

Achoo!

“Merry, go home and take Happy with you.”

And just in case you weren't keeping track:

Twelve Minions Helping
Eleven Guests A'knocking
Ten Minutes A'Waiting
Nine Outfits Waiting

Eight Hours Passing
Seven Generations Passing
Six Days Hoing
Five Stolen Things
Four Doting Girls
Three Gloomy Addams

Two Aged Spies
A Time Lord in a Sunnydale Crypt

And this, my friends, is the end of the Twelve Fics of Christmas. Love you!

Kate Westin was a woman with a problem, and not just any problem, but one uniquely her own. She stared at a display of tools and sighed.

How do you Christmas shop for an Invisible Man? She wondered as she picked up a set of screwdrivers. Dan had all the high tech tools and gizmos that he could want. Their boss saw to that and, in turn, the KLAE resource, as Dan was now referred to, danced to his tune. It made Danny crazy that he was still tied to the organization, but until he could rebuild his machine, literally from the ground up, he had no choice.

“Danny, why did you do it?” she murmured, exchanging the screwdrivers for a ratchet set. “Why are you so impulsive?” She was thinking of how Danny turned the machine on himself, making himself invisible, then destroying it along with his notes to keep the military from getting it. The plan was that a few hours later he would become visible again and all would be well. It didn’t work that way. It never worked that way.

In case you've missed any:

Nine Outfits Waiting

Eight Hours Passing
Seven Generations Passing
Six Days Hoing
Five Stolen Things
Four Doting Girls
Three Gloomy Addams

Two Aged Spies
A Time Lord in a Sunnydale Crypt

comments

It’s nearly time for holly, old St. Nick, and all the other bits and bobs of the season. Pardon me if these are mostly aim at Christmas, but it’s sort of a big thing around here.

1. Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas – which one do you use?

2. Do you own an ugly Christmas sweater?

3. Do you celebrate the Winter Solstice?

4. Now that you are ‘in the know,’ what would you leave out for St. Nick on the 24th?

5. Tired of the snow and icky weather yet? For those fortunate folks in the other hemisphere, are you tired of the humidity and hot weather?

1. Merry Christmas. I'm sorry, but until Blessed Solstice becomes the common greeting, I'll stick with it.

2. Yes. I received one as a gift last year. It lights up and flashes...

3. You bet your William Tell Overture I do. My rituals are simple, my prayers are sincere and my heart is calm.

4. I think 'Santa' would be very happy with a nice bottle of OVZ (Old Vine Zinfandel) this year.

5. Well, we don't get snow or ice, but we do have fog... lots and lots of fog... That I'm already tired of.

comments

He adjusted his shoulders slightly and then shot his cuffs so just an inch of the pressed and starched white shirt showed.

He leaned forward to study the tie, the detail of its knot and the way the clip held it to his shirt. That accomplished, he checked his pocket to make sure just a bit of the coordinated handkerchief showed.

He was every inch the tailored and cultured spy and dressed to the nines. With a much practiced move, he slipped his cigarette case out and offered it to an imaginary date. Then he held up a finger and turned, hunching over the case and speaking into it softly. “Solo here. Open Channel D.”

Yes Pugsley Addams was every inch the cultured and tailored spy. His hero, Napoleon Solo, would be pleased. He glanced over at his wardrobe, eight other suits hanging there, just waiting for him to don them and rush out to save the world.

If case you've missed any...

Eight Hours Passing
Seven Generations Passing
Six Days Hoing
Five Stolen Things
Four Doting Girls
Three Gloomy Addams

Two Aged Spies
A Time Lord in a Sunnydale Crypt

comments

It seemed strange after all these years to be back in an apartment. When he’d moved in with Mrs. Mallard, he swore he’d never go back to apartment living. And, yet, here he was – eight floors up and eight steps away. Perhaps he should play that number in the lottery.

That made him snort. Like he needed the money. The death of the old woman had left him very well off, as had the sale of the house. He also had his retirement from the government, if and when he actually decided to leave.

Ducky opened his door and walked in, pausing before he shut it behind him. It had been a long time since he’d had to worry about being jumped by some over-enthusiastic foe, but he was still cautious. He’d been planning for moment just like this one…( Read more... )

comments

Senior shows up and wants Tony to hit up Gomez and Morticia for money to invest in his most recent schemes. However, nothing ever is as it seems in the Addams household.

[Unknown site tag], I hope you enjoy your Christmas tale. Thanks for a challenging prompt! And sparky955, thanks for the beta

Tony wasn’t keen on his father’s entrepreneurial schemes. He wasn’t keen on his father’s need for easy and ready money. Hell, there were days when he wasn’t even keen on his father. This was one of those days.

Tony stood at the gate that surround the very dark and very creepy mansion. The sky was black with clouds and a few flakes floated down, promising more to come. Tony knew he needed to get in and out fast if he was going to avoid this storm. He reached for it and swore the gate growled at him.

“Ah, nice gate?” he tried and reluctantly it swung open and he walked the short distance between it and the front door. Once the place might have been something spectacular, but now its glory days were well in its past. The wood smelled of age and mildew and Tony caught his breath as he mounted the porch stairs. They looked as if they would collapse at any moment. Yet they held firm.

Tony wished with all his might that he could have convinced McGee or even Abby to come with him. In fact, this place was right up Abby’s lane, but the Goth girl had plans she couldn’t wiggle out of. At this point, Tony would have paid big money to have Gibbs behind him, ready to head slap him into action.

Tony reached out and used the knocker. It was so loud that it momentarily deafened him and he staggered back a step. The door creaked open and a wall of black greeted him. It took Tony a couple of seconds to realize that there was a head on top of the mass.

comments

My thanks to sparky955 for her beta help!

Bob crept quietly through the hall and peeked into the girls’ room. Lucy was sitting in a rocking chair, with Agnes on her lap. Edith was in bed, dressed in her usual pink from head to toe. Margo sat at her desk, computer and homework pushed aside in favor of listening to the nightly bedtime story.

Bob hugged his teddy closer and sighed. He, too, looked forward to this time and he’d made it his habit of sneaking away. He studied Lucy, how she would tilt her head this way or that on certain words and then that last good night kiss.

“BOB!” Gru looked around his lab and spotted another overall-wearing minion. “Kevin, where is Bob?”

Kevin made a rude noise and kept walking. He was a minion after a banana.

comments

These questions written by anais_pf, a.k.a., “the mean aunt who gives books as gifts.”

1. Do you enjoy receiving books as holiday or birthday gifts?

2. What book are you reading (or, what is the last book you read)?

3. Are you enjoying (or, did you enjoy) that book? Why or why not?

4. About how many books do you read in an average year?

5. What are some of the books on your to-read pile (or list)?

1. I have always enjoyed getting books as gifts. They always fit and you can use them right away.

2. I'm reading Dance like Everyone is Watching and it's great fun.

3. Yes, it's silly and reminds us just how awkward being 17 is.

4. Golly, a lot depends upon what sort of vacation we take as that's when I do my most reading. I think at least a couple of hundred.

5. The Skeleton Makes a Friend is honestly the only one I remember at the moment.

comments

Title: Three Gloomy Addams
Genre: The Addams Family
Rating: G
Word count: 1560
Prompt: Omg then YES! I'd like to go for Addams Fam this time, please :D
My favourites were Wednesday (of course) and Morticia and Gomez (so romantic!)

amethyst_witch - I hope you enjoy your bit of Christmas fun. My thanks to sparky955 for her beta

Carefully, Morticia hung the spider from the bare branch of the tree. It was so much easier now that all the needles had fallen off. The spider looked back at Morticia.

“Off you go now.” The spider raced away and Morticia smiled. The tree was coming together wonderfully. It was so gloomy and dismal, just perfect for this time of the year. The branches were trimmed with various ornaments of the season, ghosts, skulls, scythes, monsters and bats while the very top of the tree held a slightly-worn vulture. It was a treasured heirloom handed down from one Addams generation to the next. Once the spiders got busy, the tree would be covered in lovely webs. Nothing said Christmas to Morticia than spider webs.

In case you've missed the others...

Two Aged Spies
A Time Lord in a Sunnydale Crypt

comments
